The Championships consist of a morning session of formal adjudication – the East Coast Championship and an afternoon session of entertainment- the Festival of the Bands.

CNL Brass presented a Hymn and an Own Choice Item in the Formal Graded Section for C and D Grade Brass Bands. The band had to be content with being runner-up to Newcastle PCYC Brass Band in this Section.

Success was achieved in the afternoon’s Festival of the Bands. CNL Brass contested Division 2 for C and D Grade Brass and Concert Bands and won this Division for the fourth successive year. The band presented five numbers in its program:

  • Swingtime Religion
  • Post Horn Gallop (with a little comedy included)
  • Golden Wedding, featuring Carol Irving on clarinet (somewhat unusual for a brass band)
  • Slides in Swingtime (featuring a trombone trio)
  • The Pioneers (a traditional march)

The program was well-received by the audience of about three hundred, with prolonged applause, in particular, for Golden Wedding.
