Orange Brass Festival 10/11 March

Orange Brass Festival: Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March, 2012

CNL Brass was a guest of City of Orange Brass Band, together with Parramatta Salvation Army Band and Willoughby City Band. The four bands marched in the Saturday Parade of Bands, which began in the City Centre at 12.30pm and proceeded to the delightful setting of Cook Park, where the Band Rotunda became the focus of activities. Upon arrival, the four bands played Blaze Away, being conducted by City of Orange Brass Band’s Musical Director, Robert Petrie. Each band then entertained in Cook Park during the afternoon with a concert performance.

The Orange Civic Theatre was the venue for Saturday evening’s entertainment. Each band again entertained the audience with a concert program. CNL Brass included a new number in its program of six items, Concertpiece for Cornet, which featured principal cornet player, Clarence Leung. It was well-received by the audience. The highlight of the evening was the performance of five numbers by the bands, combined as a massed band.

Sunday saw each of the bands back at Cook Park, where the“sound of brass” commenced at 9am and concluded at about 3.30pm. Parramatta Salvation Army Band presented a selection of gospel hymns. CNL Brass and the other bands entertained with concert programs and combined, once again, to provide five massed band items, being conducted by Robert Petrie.

In summary, CNL Brass presented three concerts, with no repetition of numbers. CNL Brass enjoyed the hospitality of the City of Orange Brass Band and its participation in a very well organised weekend of musical events.

It was a memorable experience for all band members and their families and friends who accompanied them.
