Brass Festival Challenge Entertainment Contest

Brass Festival Challenge Entertainment Contest

Mingara Recreation Club: Tumbi Umbi: Sunday 26 February.

CNL Brass was one of five brass bands to present an entertainment program. The other bands were: St Marys Band Club Brass, Leichardt Celebrity Brass, Gosford City Brass and Parramatta City Brass.

Members of the audience of about three hundred were very receptive to the music presented and obviously enjoyed the afternoon.

CNL Brass opened its concert program with the well known march, Stars and Stripes Forever. Solo Horn player, Alison Tonkin, then led the band with He Ain’t Heavy-He’s My Brother. The trombone trio of Arthur Howard, Marcus Holdsworth and Anthony Fowler were somewhat menacing in their rendition of The Attack of the Killer Trombones. A romantic “oldie”, What I did for Love followed. What’s New, a trumpet solo with a jazz theme, featured John Kathner with the backing of the band. The band finished with the very busy number Lord of the Dance.

St Marys Band Club Brass won the event, with Leichardt Celebrity Brass placed second and CNL Brass finishing in third place.
