Community Bands in Concert: Sunday 28 October 2012: Toronto Workers Club


CNL Brass was one of six community bands to present a concert program of thirty minutes duration to an appreciative audience. It was an afternoon of varied musical entertainment.

The other bands to participate were: Western Lake Macquarie Concert, Brisbane Water Brass, Newcastle PCYC Brass, Lake Macquarie Winds and Toronto Brass.

John Kathner at Community Bands In ConcertCNL Brass played nine numbers, opening with the 2011 composition, a March by Michael Forsyth, Lennox Bridge. Clarence Leung, Principal Cornet, featured with the 1976 hit made popular by Neil Sedaka, Solitaire. Johnny O’Keefe’s 1958 lively hit from the era of Rock ‘n Roll, Shout, contrasted with the rather gentle What I Did For Love, from the musical A Chorus Line, Music associated with a circus band was featured in the number, The Big Top.

John Kathner, on flugel horn, delighted the audience with Chris de Burghs’ huge hit from 1986, Lady In Red. The band concluded its Program with a 1968 number recorded and made popular by The Rolling Stones, Ruby Tuesday.

The Afternoon was organised by the Hunter Regional Band Association.
