CNL Brass Christmas Function: 18th December 2013


JOHN YOUNG COMMUNITY HALL, CARDIFF
Families and friends attended the annual CNL Brass Christmas Function on Wednesday evening, 18th December. The band presented a one hour concert program, consisting of Christmas tunes and carols and popular numbers from the band’s repertoire. The concert was well-received, with generous applause from those present.

The formal part of the evening saw Teena Wallace, assistant musical director of the band, present two of the three perpetual trophies awarded annually. Doug Hoepper, flugel horn player, received the Alan Meldrum Encouragement Trophy, while Geoffrey McGregor, solo tenor horn player, accepted the Jim Adams Most Improved Trophy. The winner of the Elwyn Hunt Trophy for Bandsmanship, was not in attendance and the trophy will be presented when the band resumes rehearsals on 22nd January next year.

 

The 40th Anniversary Cake

The Band celebrated its 40th Anniversary this year, having been established in 1973 through the efforts of three families. One of those families, husband and wife Max and Pat Forbes, are still associated with the band. Max is a tenor horn player and Pat, until recently, was a member of the band committee. Pat and Max shared the honour of cutting the Anniversary Cake, to the rendition of Happy Birthday from all present.

The band will take a well-earned vacation over the Festive Season and resume rehearsals on 22ndJanuary, 2014.
