This Concert provided the audience with a selection of music from Musicals, both stage and screen. The Concert opened with a medley of ten tunes from Show Boat, a 1927 Broadway production, including Make Believe, Dance Away the Night and Ol’ Man River. A medley of six tunes from the Pirates of Penzance followed. Memory, from Cats, was featured on soprano cornet by Joanne McDougall. Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, from Evita, was well-received, as was I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables. The first half closed with the very lively arrangement by Goff Richards of Breezin’ Down Broadway.

Doug Hoepper features on flugel horn, playing “Send in the Clowns”

The Concert resumed after interval with selections from Jesus Christ Super Star, followed by Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King. Doug Hoepper delighted the audience on flugel horn with his rendition of Send in the Clowns from the 1973 Musical, A Little Light Music. Selections from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat followed and then a medley of tunes written by George Gershwin for Broadway Shows. The second half concluded with one of Ethel Merman’s classic numbers, the title of the 1954 movie in which she starred, There’s No Business Like Show Business.

In all, thirteen numbers were presented to a very appreciative audience of about one hundred, many of whom can now be recognised as CNL Brass Concert supporters.
