WALLSEND DIGGERS CLUB
John Kellaway commenced his role as Musical Director of CNL Brass in May 2013. He has been dedicated to this role and a real inspiration for members of the band. Due to a change in his academic commitments as a lecturer in the Faculty of Music, University of Newcastle, he had to relinquish his role at the end of June.
John’s farewell lunch was well attended by band members and their families. It provided John with the opportunity to “have a chat”, relax and enjoy the company without a “baton in hand”. David Walker, vice president, presented John with a gift on behalf of all present. John’s reply indicated that he was reluctant to leave the band as it had been a challenging, but enjoyable experience and that he would continue to retain an interest in the progress of the band.
It is not the end of his relationship with CNL Brass, however, as he has been invited to conduct the band when it visits Tamworth in October to share the billing with Tamworth RSL Brass Band in the annual Brilliance of Brass Concert.
