LAKE MACQUARIE PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE, WARNERS BAY

This Concert, with the title chosen by Musical Director David Thompson, had a “touch of romance”. It opened with Paul McCartney’s composition Got To Get You Into My Life and included in the first half, just to name a few romantic numbers, Chanson D’Amour, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, featuring principal trombonist Marcus Holdsworth, followed by and the rather melancholy Somewhere Out There. Clarence Leung, playing cornet, drew sustained applause with his delightful memory solo Georgia On My Mind. The first half concluded with the Lionel Richie hit All Night Long.

The Concert resumed after interval with I’ll Be There, the most successful single hit ever released by The Jackson 5. This half included the Paul McCartney hit When I’m 64 (for the seniors in the audience), a trombone trio feature, The Attack of the Killer Trombones, the emotional 2002 composition You Raise Me Up and, as the final encore item, the rather vigorous and well-known Light Cavalry Overture.
In all, seventeen numbers were presented to a most appreciative audience.
