A tribute was paid to Luke by the Band Committee at his last Concert conducting Cardiff Brass on 27th April. It was printed in the Audience Program for all to read. It reads as follows.
Your decision to end your time as Musical Director of Cardiff Brass was not one that we were happy to hear. You came to the Band almost four years ago at a time when we truly needed someone to take the reins and lead us as a true Brass Band Conductor.
You brought knowledge with your qualifications and experience, but also a true banding background. You looked for the best you could receive from the players, even when numbers were low, you strived for the best Sound/Tuning/ Performance, you promoted an interest in new written music. Then also, that the Committee were working with you as a team and on the same page.
Yes, you did all the above and more and for that we are very grateful. We are also grateful for the laughter, the talks after rehearsals, your coming straight from work, your interest and your ideas.
One thing remains to be said and that is we are truly very thankful you came our way and became part of our history. Thank you for all that you have achieved and done for Cardiff Brass in the past four years. We will miss you and wish you all the very best for a safe, happy and purpose filled future.
Luke was presented with a farewell gift during the second half of the Concert.
