John Kellaway chose well-known music from the movies from the period 1939 to 2003, opening the program with Tara’s Theme from the 1939 epic romance film Gone with the Wind. In 1978 Jeff Wayne produced a musical album for the 1953 film, The War of the Worlds. The Eve of the War is the first number from the album. The soundtrack of the 1987 movie Good Morning Vietnam featured a re-release of the Louis Armstrong number, What a Wonderful World. Bruce Fletcher, principal cornet, led the band in its presentation.
The Best of Bond, a medley from four James Bond movies, included Goldfinger and Live and Let Die. These added a touch of excitement. Next, providing a contrast, was the appealing tone of the flugel horn featured in Murray Hetherington’s rendition of Children of Sanchez from the 1978 movie of the same name. Excitement returned with music from the 1978 film Superman and continued with the composition The Man From Snowy River, from thevery successful 1982 Australian movie The Man from Snowy River, based upon Banjo Paterson’s poem. Everybody Needs Somebody (to Love) from the 1980 comedy movie The Blues Brothers, provided an entertaining conclusion to the first half.
The main Theme from the musical score of the 1992 movie 1492: Conquest of Paradise opened the second half of the program. This movie portrayed the voyage of discovery by Christopher Columbus in sailing from Spain in 1492 to the discover the New World. This arrangement, with its foreboding beat, provided the audience with a sense of anticipation and adventure. Ennio Morricone wrote the Score for the 1986 movie The Mission. One number from this Score to achieve worldwide recognition was the haunting melody Gabriel’s Oboe. Who could forget Whoopi Goldberg conducting the choir of nuns in the 1992 movie Sister Act as they sang I Will Follow Him. They were happy, bodies swaying and clapping and having a great time. The trombone section was happy as they led the band in this number. The audience were “caught up” in the joy of the occasion as they clapped along.

The next two choices introduced excitement once again to the program
The Fellowship of the Ring was the Theme from the first of the extremely successful series of fantasy films of Lord of the Rings released in 2001.
The Curse of the Black Pearl, from the soundtrack of the first of five Pirates of the Caribbean movie Series, which was released in 2003.
The second half concluded with the well-chosen Movie Blockbusters, a medley of excerpts from five tunes, which were the Raider’s March from the1981 movie Raider’s of the Lost Ark, My Heart will Go On from the 1997 movie Titanic). Hymn to Red October from the 1990 movie The Hunt for Red October, Zorro’s Theme from the 1998 movie The Mask of Zorro and the Mission Impossible Theme from 1996 movie Mission Impossible.
The audience applauded each number and were generous in their applause at the end. The program finally ended with an encore March Aces High.
