“Christmas in Brass” Concert: 7th December, 2025

Musical Director John Kellaway
Warners Bay Theatre

The Concert opened with the traditional O Come All Ye Faithful, followed by Mistletoe and Wine, made popular by Sir Cliff Richard when released in 1988. Murray Hetherington then featured as soloist on flugel horn with the ever popular Away in a Manger. Next were Happy Christmas (War is Over), a favourite by John Lennon, Carol of the Bells, Comfort and Joy, and Feliz Navidad (Merry Christmas), composed and recorded by Puerto-Ricansinger/guitarist Jose Feliciano. An additional Percussion Section of seven children and a few seniors from the audience joined in, playing a variety of “bells and whistles”, as the first half concluded with Jingle Bells.

Leroy Anderson’s A Christmas Festival, a very lively medley of Christmas tunes, opened the second half of the program. Let it Snow followed (without the snow). Lingy Teulilo then featured on baritone in O Holy Night. The cornet section rose from their seats to lead the band in Angels from Glory.

The New Zealand lullaby Hine e Hine followed, with two “forever favourites” White Christmas and Silent Night next. The program concluded with the March Christmas Joy. However, it was not over, as the Musical Director invited the additional Percussion Section back to join with the Band in the encore number We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

The audience were generous in their applause and left with smiles on their faces.

Cardiff Brass acknowledges and thanks Lake Macquarie City Council for providing financial sponsorship, which assisted in staging this Concert. The music of a brass band was once again presented to the citizens of this City to enjoy.
